The concept of sponge city construction

The so-called sponge city is a city that is flexible like a sponge in adapting to environmental changes and responding to natural disasters. When it rains, it absorbs water and stores water. When needed, it releases the stored rainwater for use. Measures such as seepage, retention, storage, net, use and discharge are adopted to minimize the impact on the ecological environment by means of source reduction, halfway transmission and end adjustment, and the target of 70% rainwater consumption and utilization is achieved.

In the construction concept of sponge city, the emission of rainfall runoff should be less than 40%, which is completely different from the traditional "fast drainage" model, which requires more than 80% of rainfall runoff to be discharged into the city. This effectively reduces the erosion of urban rainwater and the ground, and then the collected rainwater is purified accordingly. This advantage not only protects the ecological environment, effectively reduces the probability of urban waterlogging, but also relieves the tension of water pressure on urban residents.

Urban roads as an important part of the urban development process, the hardened area of municipal roads continues to increase, once the rainy season comes, many cities will enter the "sea mode" and develop into the current urban governance ills of waterlogging, sponge city construction into the concept of municipal road design, ecological design to achieve road runoff collection and utilization, as groundwater and roadside green belt water. This not only helps to improve the life of municipal roads, but also can maintain the urban ecological environment.
